What is the TOD@S Leadership Crew?

The goal of the TOD@s Leadership Crew is to support LGBQ/T people of color affected by partner abuse/domestic violence* to create and implement projects aimed at raising awareness about partner abuse in LGBQ/T communities of color. Leaders will attend a series of trainings about partner abuse and project planning before working together to create resources and/or projects relevant to those affected by partner abuse/domestic violence. The crew will build community together through supportive team building activities. The crew will be supported to envision and design a project of their choosing, such as a video or community event. Four people will be selected to form the first TOD@S Leadership Crew and will meet twice a month for 6 months.

What are the application requirements?

  • Applicants must be able to attend all scheduled trainings, event planning meetings, and participant-organized events.
  • Applicants should identify as LGBQ/T and as a person of color.
  • Applicants should identify as a person affected by partner abuse/domestic violence.* This includes individuals who are the direct target of domestic violence/partner abuse, who are witnesses to partner abuse/domestic violence, or who support a friend, family member or co-worker who is a target of partner abuse/domestic violence.
  • Applicants should have a love for their community and a passion for social justice.
  • Applicants should be 18+ years of age.

*Partner abuse is a systematic pattern of behaviors where one person non-consensually uses power to try to control the thoughts, beliefs, actions, body, and/or spirit of a partner. By partner, we are referring to a range of intimate relationships including but not limited to play partner; date; spouse; sexual partner; boyfriend/girlfriend; boo; hookup; life partner; lover. Partner abuse is also called domestic violence, battering, intimate partner abuse, and/or dating violence. Those who abuse may use a number of behaviors to control their partner including physical abuse, sexual abuse, economic abuse and cultural/identity abuse.
